General educational information; not legal advice or a guarantee of approval. Confirm current requirements for your operation.

Know the filing schedule

FMCSA uses the final digits of the USDOT number to determine the filing month and whether the update is due in an odd or even year. Confirm the official schedule for your number.

Verify before submitting

Review legal name, DBA, addresses, contact details, operation classification, cargo, power units, drivers, mileage, and authority-related information. Incorrect figures can distort the public profile and compliance analysis.

Update when material information changes

Do not wait for the biennial month when required registration information changes. Keep supporting records showing who approved the update and what source data was used.
